Brighton City College - City Entrepreneur logoNurturing entrepreneurial talent
February 2008

We've been proud to support Brighton City College in their first City Entrepreneur competition, held during winter 2007/08.

Brighton City College approached Boxharry Director Elizabeth McLaughlin, to take on a mentoring role for one of the groups. The innovative competition is designed to nurture entrepreneurial talent and provide experience in running a small business.

The college paired Elizabeth with Stony Magenta, who design and produce handmade knitted gifts and jewellery, currently on sale in shops in Brighton's North Laines.

Elizabeth said: "I was delighted to be able to help out, providing advice and support where needed. Sara and Magda from Stony Magenta are brimming with ideas and it's great to see such creativity and determination.

Over the years I've always found it very helpful to talk to experienced people and to learn from them, so it's great to be able to help out."

Brighton City College will be annoucing the competition winners in March 2008.

Racing cert for WaterAid
October 2007

WaterAidA day at the races provided an ideal way for Boxharry to join with Southern Water in supporting international charity, WaterAid.

Elizabeth McLaughlin and Gwen Hancock of Boxharry joined other key Southern Water contractors to support the day, which raised almost £60,000.

The recent Irish Race Day at Fontwell Park was organised by Southern Water to raise funds for WaterAid.

And although even racing legend Richard Dunwoody's tips were not enough to help Elizabeth and Gwen to win on the races, great fun was had by all, with more than 5,550 people enjoying the races as well as supporting this outstanding charity.

Elizabeth said: "We are proud to be part of Southern Water's fund-raising initiatives on behalf of WaterAid. WaterAid is a fantastic organisation making an enormous contribution to the lives of millions of people worldwide."

Nikki Skipper, South East Regional Development Manager for WaterAid, said: "There really was quite an overwhelming amound of interest and goodwill and the amount raised was beyond our wildest dreams."
